The Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival invites Mongolian filmmakers to enter the Mongolian Film Competition, which brings Mongolian films to audiences at home and abroad and celebrates the best films and filmmakers. Feature films are accepted; the selected entries are also shown to the public in the Mongolian Film Program.

One winner is chosen in each category and receives a trophy, a cash prize and a certificate:

• Best Film
• Best Director
• Best Actor
• Best Actress
• Best Supporting Actor
• Best Supporting Actress
• Best Cinematography
• Best Production Design
• Best Screenplay
• Best Original Score
• Best Editing
• Best Sound
• Best Make-up

Best Film — requirements

• Made outside the USA and its territories, longer than 40 minutes
• More than half of the dialogue in a language other than English (Mongolian)
• Released in Mongolia within the eligibility period
• Shown commercially in a cinema for at least seven consecutive days (festival screenings do not count)
• Not released other than in cinemas before (TV, cable, IPTV, PPV/VOD, DVD, in-flight, etc.)
• Mongolian creatives in the key roles
• English subtitles

Other categories — requirements

• High artistic and technical quality
• Completed within the eligibility period
• A crew with at least three years of feature-film experience
• English subtitles

Selection is made by a jury appointed by the organisers (Ulaanbaatar City Department of Culture and Arts, Mongolian National Film Council, Arts Council of Mongolia) and independent filmmakers.

The Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival invites Mongolian filmmakers to propose their new film as the festival’s Opening Film. The selected film has its world premiere at the festival, is presented to international festival programmers, directors and producers, and is screened to the public.

Requirements

• A new, unreleased feature-length Mongolian film or Mongolian co-production, fiction or documentary
• High artistic and technical quality
• English subtitles
